Have you ever had to travel to a place that was out of your provider’s coverage zone? Or maybe you bought a used phone and later realized that you were stuck with the previous owner’s carrier? Or maybe you just want to have control of your own phone and not be tethered to the slavedriver carriers.

We’ve figured out the best way to unlock your Samsung Galaxy S5, so you can use it with any carrier you prefer.

Our recommended service is DirectUnlock. They’re cheapest, fastest and have great support.

Once it is unlocked, you can:

  • Choose from a wide choice of network carriers
    – Particularly useful if you often travel for work or leisure. Perhaps you like to spend your summers in a country village where only one network is available. In that case, you can switch to a pre-paid SIM card for the duration of your stay.
  • Save money both when you buy and when you sell your phone.
    – Although it might seem cheaper to buy a phone that is tied to Verizon or AT&T, the truth is you will end up paying the full retail price during the time you are bound to their contract. If you decide to sell your Samsung S5 after a few months, you will not have to pay any termination fees AND you will be able to sell it for up to 30% more than if it was locked.
  • Get the freedom to change carriers at any time without extra costs.
    – Let’s say you are unhappy with your current service provider or your budget became tight. Do you have to wait another year until your contract with your carrier is over? No! You change your SIM card to the provider that offers you the best deal and there is nothing to worry about.

Even if you don’t travel outside your carrier’s coverage area, money is not an issue, and you are happy with your current provider, you might just be a gadget-lover like me. Unlocked phones allow you to stay up to date with all the latest models.

The problem is that even if you bought your S5 on the release date, the next model will be out before your contract with Verizon is over. Lucky for you, we have a solution that works every time.

You may have heard of magical ways to unlock phones, but what they don’t tell you is that they can ruin your warranty, rip you off with a code that doesn’t work, or fool you with shady software.

I know this for a fact, because I had to learn my lesson the hard way. If you are reading this article, it means that you will not make the same mistakes I did when trying to do this to my Samsung S5.

Before we talk about the best method that’s guaranteed to free your device from the carrier, let me walk you through what NOT to do when you decide to unlock your phone.

How To Free Samsung Galaxy s5 From Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint?

I was already fed up with my carrier’s faulty reception and their complete lack of interest when I called customer service. The last straw came when I returned from a holiday in Europe and saw my ridiculous roaming fees! That’s when I made up my mind that I had to figure out a way to bring my phone to a different carrier.

Up until that point I didn’t even realize there was such a thing as unlocking phones. But then, as a confessed tech geek with way too much time to roam the internet, I decided to put the cat videos on hold and do some serious research on how to unlock my Samsung S5.

You know how your first hit on a Google search is usually the best?
Well, not in this case. The first thing I found was a free hack, which my intuition told me right away was a scam. They give you a code and a set of instructions to follow. Not to mention they also required a foreign SIM card, for some reason.

When it comes to technology, I usually go by the motto: “If it looks too good to be true, it is”. So I moved on to the comments sections and- surprise, surprise- the ones who were brave enough to try it didn’t have any luck with that “simple trick.”

However, no one complained that the hack damaged their equipment either, so at least they had that going for them.

The next hit suggested asking the carrier to unlock it. Again, I thought to myself: “If it was really that simple, why would anyone have a locked phone?” Well, this solution was out of the question for me right off the bat. The first thing you need in order to try negotiating with your carrier is a finished contract and mine was nowhere near over.

Here’s what I found:

1) There are different procedures and requirements for each carrier
2) The only people who reported success were AT&T and Sprint clients (but there were only a few of them, so they got lucky)
3) This process takes a lot of time and patience, since it’s not really in the carriers’ best interests
4) Sprint can unlock your phone either for domestic or international carriers, but not both. So you would be able to switch carriers in the US, but if you travel abroad, you’ll end up right where you started.

The final “solution” on Google recommended a free software, which you simply download onto your computer and then connect your phone to get the software installed. They claimed to get your mobile unlocked in a matter of minutes.

Sounds good, right? But wait, there’s more…

1) You are most likely to lose all the data on your device
2) You automatically lose the manufacturer’s warranty by installing third-party software
3) There is a pretty high chance you are actually installing a virus that would permanently damage your phone
4) I couldn’t find a single testimony vouching for this method, so I didn’t want to risk trying it myself.

Definitely NOT okay!
It took me a lot more research to finally figure out a safe way to do this with my Samsung S5.

Here is what I learned in the process.

Which Methods Can You Use To Unlock Your Phone That Actually Work?

As of 2013, cell phone unlocking is 100% legal. However, there is a wide array of options available to grant you this service and while none of them are illegal, you really have to sift through to make sure you actually get what you need.

Let’s check out all the ways to unlock a Samsung S5.

1. Free SIM unlocking

This is the method where you allegedly unlock your phone for free and without any damages. You follow a set of instructions, type in a free code and change your SIM card to a foreign one. I dare you to find a person who has ever accomplished such powerful magic.

2. Carrier unlocking

It might be worth a shot to call your carrier and kindly ask them to unlock your phone. However, this will require that you don’t have any pending payments, your contract has expired, and the attendant you talk to is in a good mood. Carriers have no legal obligation to provide you with this service.

Good luck with that!

3.Software unlocking

Software unlocking implies downloading a piece of software onto your computer and then transferring it to your phone through a USB cable. In theory, the software should be able to change the internal configuration of your phone, thus releasing it for use with any carrier.

The reality is that there is no such thing as software designed to unlock phones. The only thing they actually do is ruin your warranty, erase your personal data, and keep you from updating the operational system.

It may also help to think about it this way: Samsung wouldn’t be a multi-million-dollar corporation if they made it to version 5 of their Galaxy series with a loophole that allowed for any software to hack it, right?

Samsung Sm G900a Update

Don’t waste your time with this.

4. IMEI or Factory unlocking

This is my preferred option.

IMEI unlocking is the only guaranteed way to free up your Samsung S5. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identifier. Each phone ever made has a unique IMEI, which is a code that identifies basic information about your equipment, including whether or not it is locked.

Each manufacturer (in this case we are talking about Samsung) keeps a giant database with all their IMEIs. By choosing an IMEI unlocking service, you are basically asking someone who has access to Samsung’s database to change the status of your phone from “locked” to “unlocked.” That’s all there is to it.

Even though the technique is the same, there are a number of providers who offer this service, most of whom are either expensive, unreliable, or just plain scams. Out of all the options I’ve tested, I can only recommend two unlock providers, namely Unlock Forest and ExpressUnlock.

While they are both trustworthy, ExpressUnlock is clearly the best.

I’ll tell you why but first we need to understand a bit more about IMEI unlocking so you know how it works.

The Only Safe Way to Unlock Your Samsung Galaxy s5 For Sure

I am pretty sure that by now you will agree with me that free solutions, carrier, and software unlocking are all a big waste of time. So that leaves us with IMEI unlocking, which is also known as Network unlocking or Factory unlocking.

As I said before, IMEI unlocking is not in any way illegal. Additionally, you do not run the risk of damaging your device, ruining the warranty, or going through the often exhausting process of begging your carrier for a code.

It is, in fact, a very straightforward process, which doesn’t take more than a few minutes of your time, even if you have no technical knowledge.

Great! We have established that IMEI/factory unlocking is the only way to go. What’s next?

You are left with about a dozen providers that promise to send you a code, which will unlock your Samsung S5. Some are cheap, but take a long time to deliver your order. Others are fast but don’t cover the carrier you need. And then there are also the ones that have no customer support or don’t offer any warranties.

Model

After extensive research through the most reputable sites with customer reviews, I finally narrowed it down to two providers: Unlock Forest and ExpressUnlock. These turned out to be the most reliable unlock providers with the best overall reviews.

Out of the two “finalists,” I ended up choosing DirectUnlock. I can highly recommend that you do the same. Their website design may not be as impressive as that of Unlock Forest, but remember when Steven Tyler sang: “Never judge a book by its cover?”

At the end of the day, all you need is a provider who will unlock your Samsung S5 for a reasonable price and within a short time frame. They also make themselves available through quick and efficient customer service.

Let’s take a moment here to acknowledge the fact that money doesn’t grow on trees and unless you’re Paris Hilton, you will want to make sure to go for the most cost effective solution, right?

Considering what you get out of DoctorSim, they have the most competitive offer on the market. In other words, not only is their price “a steal,” but they are also fast, provide excellent customer service, and have a 10-day refund policy. Even in the unlikely event that you end up with a code that doesn’t work, you can still get a full refund.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes DirectUnlock our big winner.

This Unlock Provider Is The Only One That Gives a Code That’s Guaranteed To Work!

If you are reading this article, you must be going through the same situation I was a while ago. I realized I need more freedom and had to get my phone unlocked.

Now that we went through all the controversial methods and ended up with the best option among IMEI providers, let me show you what it is that makes DoctorSim so special.

I’ll start by saying that my little experiment with DirectUnlockcould not have turned out better. And I’m not easy to please (just ask my boyfriend)! I’ve had some pretty bad experiences with online shopping in the past, so I’m happy to say this was not one of them. But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s a sample of the testimonials I found online:

“Excellent experience. Code arrived next morning. Entered once and BAM the phone got unlocked! Definitely recommend to everyone!”

Customer support at DoctorSim helped me to unlock my phone with step-by-step instructions. Codes were sent to me in less than one day and codes were functional. Phone is unlocked now! :)”

You see I am not the only one who became a fan of DoctorSim. The provider has an impressive reputation on Trust Review, ranking 9.6 out of 10! In a market that is so full of scams and overpriced services, five pages of praise is a testament to their company.

In case you are still wondering what this fuss is all about, let me point out all the benefits DirectUnlock has to offer:

  • You are guaranteed to get a factory code that works every single time
  • They have the best prices in the market, starting from as little as $26, depending on your carrier
  • The maximum delivery time is 7 days, but most reviewers reported receiving their code within the first 24 hours
  • Customer service is outstanding! I tried contacting them before and after ordering my code, and in both cases I got a reply after just a couple of hours. Not only were they fast, but also extremely patient with my intentionally dumb questions
  • They have been in the market for over 10 years
  • They take PayPal so you don’t need to give them your credit card number. The transaction is more secure that way

I could go on, but I think you get the point.

If you are interested in taking your phone to a different carrier so you can take advantage of better monthly fees or because you are planning a holiday overseas, unlock your phone.

You can’t do this for free, but if you remember what I said in the beginning, you can resell your unlocked phone for up to 30% more in comparison to a locked one. $26- $32 is a small price to pay for all these benefits.

It’s so easy too – here’s how to order your unlock code below.

Here’s How To Get Your Samsung Galaxy s5 Unlock Code FAST

If you bought your Samsung Galaxy S5 from one of the major carriers in the US, you signed a contract to stay with them for at least six months. Somewhere in the fine print that you would never bother reading, it stated that your brand-new phone came with the wonderful bonus of being locked to that particular carrier.

Alternatively, you may have bought a used S5 from Ebay because it was such a bargain, but now you can’t bring it over to your carrier of choice.

As the smart person that you are, you read all about software unlocking services. You get adventurous with a free unlock provider and finally you beg your carrier to just set you free! Nothing works.

Samsung sm g900a charger

That is, until you find this article and discover that someone else was once in your shoes and has done all the research for you (you’re welcome).

Now, you do the only sensible thing and unlock your phone quickly and conveniently with a reputable IMEI unlock provider. Good for you!

The best place to get a Samsung Galaxy S5 unlock code is at DirectUnlock. They will get you a guaranteed factory code that allows you to unlock your device hassle-free without damaging your phone or ruining your warranty.

That alone sets them aside from 90% of their competitors. Even though it should be obvious that a company will do what you pay them to do, there are plenty of so-called providers out there who are only after your money.

Speaking of money, DoctorSim also offers the best prices in the market and a promise to cover any offers from the competition. You will receive your code and detailed instructions on how to use it. In addition, you can contact their customer service day or night and they will get back to you within a couple of hours at most.

To top it all off, you can find a number of testimonials from satisfied customers with just a quick Google search. And last, but not least, you have the right to ask for a full refund if your code does not work (which is highly unlikely).

Before you click on “Unlock it”, you can choose to share the website on G+, on Facebook or on Twitter to win a chance to get your unlock code for free if you’re strapped for cash. The last step will redirect you to PayPal. Just confirm the payment, and before you know it, your unlock code will be in your inbox!
